SHOWROOM SAMPLE TESTING AND EXPERTISE RECOMMENDATIONS

POLYURETHANE FOAM

THE FOAM THAT MOULDS ITSELF TO YOUR BODY AND PROVIDES FIRM SUPPORT WHILE ALSO BEING SOFT AND RESILIENT.

MEMORY FOAM

MOULDS TO THE CONTOURS OF YOUR BODY IN RESPONSE TO BODY TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE, WHILE EVENLY

DISTRIBUTING BODY WEIGHT AND PROVIDING PRESSURE RELIEF DURING SLEEP.

LATEX FOAM

THE MOST NATURAL FORM OF FOAM (DERIVED FROM NATURAL RUBBER TREE LATEX). OFFERS PERSONALIZED COMFORT BY

INSTANTANEOUSLY MOULDING TO YOUR BODY AND PROVIDING ALL OVER SUPPORT TO HELP RELIEVE PRESSURE, WHILE

KEEPING A CONSISTENT TEMPERATURE.

FOAM DENSITY vs FOAM FIRMNESS

FOAM DENSITY

THE DENSITY OF A FOAM REFERS TO THE WEIGHT OF THE FOAM IN A 1 CUBIC FOOT BLOCK. SO, IF A FOAM MATTRESS OR CUSHION IS SAID TO

HAVE 3 LB DENSITY, THAT MEANS THAT THE MATERIAL BEING USED, WHEN CUT INTO A 1 CUBIC FOOT BLOCK, WOULD WEIGH 3 LB. FOAMS THAT HAVE A HIGHER DENSITY HAVE MORE FOAM PER CUBIC FOOT BLOCK THAN LOWER DENSITY FOAMS. HIGHER FOAM DENSITY IS MORE RESISTANCE AND LONGEVITY TO STRESS DUE TO HIGHER CONCENTRATION OF FOAM.

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE, THAT FOAM DENSITY IS AN INDEPENDENT CHARACTERISTIC (FOAM CONCENTRATION LEVEL) AND MAY NOT BE IN DIRECT CORRELATION WITH THE FOAM FIRMNESS LEVEL.

FOAM FIRMNESS

FIRMNESS IS THE REFLECTIVE FEEL OF THE FOAM AND HOW IT CARRIES AND YIELDS TO WEIGHT AND PRESSURE. IT IS MEASURED WITH A VALUE CALLED IDENTATION LOAD DEFELCTION (ILD). ILD IS MEASURED BY TAKING 15 INCH BY 15 INCH BY 4 INCH SECTION OF FOAM AND MEASURING THE FORCE IN POUNDS THAT IT TAKES A 50 SQUARE INCH CIRCULAR PLATE TO COMPRESS THE MATERIAL 25% OF ITS ORIGINAL THICKNESS. IF A FOAM SECTION REQUIRES 36 LBS OF PRESSURE TO REACH 25% COMPRESSION, IT HAS AN ILD VALUE OF 36. A FIRM MATERIAL WILL REQUIRE MORE FORCE TO REACH ITS COMPRESSION VALUE, AND A SOFTER MATERIAL WILL REQUIRE LESS FORCE.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, THAT FOAM FIRMNESS IS BASED PRIMARILY ON THE STRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL MAKE UP OF THE FOAM, NOT NECESSARILY THE FOAM DENSITY. AS HIGHER DENSITY FOAMS CAN HAVE LOWER ILD AND VICE VERSA.

CONCLUSION

HIGH DENSITY FOAM IS BEST IN APPLICATIONS THAT RECEIVE HEAVY OR DAILY USE, LIKE MATTRESSES, COUCH CUSHIONS, AND SEATING. LOWER DENSITY FOAM IS MORE IDEAL FOR COMFORT APPLICATIONS SUCH AS PILLOWS AND BACK CUSHIONS THAT RECEIVE LESS FREQUENT USE.

FOAM FIRMNESS SHOULD BE BASED ON THE PERSONAL PREFERENCE OF USER'S COMFORT AND SUPPORT AS PREFERRED.
